This makes Melisandre and Daenerys' meeting at Dragonstone all the more important. Rhaegar Targaryen in Daenerys' vision at the House of the Undying, A Clash of Kings, Chapter 48, Daenerys IIIįans know well the second prophesied Long Night is on the horizon with the Night King and his Army of the Dead bearing down on Westeros like a storm. There must be one more… The dragon has three heads." "Aegon… What better name for a King… He is the Prince that was Promised, and his is the song of ice and fire. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him." Martin's Song of Ice and Fire book series never makes an explicit connection between Azor Ahai and the Prince That Was Promised, but Melisandre uses the names interchangeably in the books and fans have long theorized they are one and the same. The Prince That Was Promised is that reincarnation, but it's not exactly clear who it will be, or even how true the prophecy is. Prophecy states another Long Night is coming and Azor Ahai will be reborn to battle the darkness once again. His name was Azor Ahai and his sword was Lightbringer. One thing all the stories from all the cultures around the World seemed to agree on was The Long Night ended thanks to the coming of a warrior who wielded a red or flaming sword. In present day Game of Thrones, they're known as the White Walkers.

They rode giant ice spiders and dead horses and ran roughshod over civilization on a mission to bring everlasting winter to the world. It was during this time the world of men came face to face with the people from the Land of Always Winter known as The Others. It was dubbed The Long Night and different cultures have different accounts of this dark age. Here's a quick history of the promised prince: Millenia ago, a winter that lasted a generation fell upon the Known World. Only the Prince Who Was Promised can bring the dawn."
